Liebster, Take Two

liebsterAs I’ve been slowly playing catch-up with my WordPress Reader and Bloglovin’ feed after totally losing track of things during vacation, I only just noticed that Fallon over at Slacker Runner nominated me for a Liebster Award! (Thanks Fallon! πŸ™‚ ) It comes at a pretty good time since I’ve got a touch of writer’s block at the moment, so if you’ll excuse me I’m going to indulge in some random survey good times:

1. What is your current health-related goal?

Good question. My fitness-related goal right now is to get my 5K PR down below 30 minutes, but my health-related goal? Hmm. I guess just to stay in shape… oh! And to stay active enough to keep my cholesterol levels down (they’re genetically inclined to be high).

2. What’s your biggest irrational fear?

House ghosts and/or people breaking into my house when I’m home alone at night! I live in an old (pre-Civil War) house so it’s creaky as hell and always sounds like there’s someone walking around in the attic or up the stairs. Plus my fridge makes loud popping sounds at random times, so that doesn’t help. And I’m always worried that someone’s lurking outside one of the windows in the dark when I can’t see out. Yep, paranoid much? I blame watching too many episodes of Unsolved Mysteries as a young, impressionable child.

3. Do you enjoy wrapping presents?

I do! I’m not very good at it (though I’ve definitely improved over the years!) but I find it fun and kind of relaxing… as long as the wrapping paper and/or tape don’t start to fight back.

4. What’s your favorite cross-training activity?

Heh… the question should be, “Do you ever cross-train?” because no, not really. I need to get better at that. I really like playing soccer, but don’t enjoy playing in the local rec league, so I’ve pretty much stopped playing altogether. Back when I had a gym membership I quite liked the stationary bike, but I don’t go to the gym anymore. So, um… walking? Does walking count? Yes, walking and hiking. Brilliant.

5. If I came to visit you, what would we do?

I’m cheating a little here Fallon, because I’m basing my answer off what you said in yours! We’d go hiking either in the Fells (north of Boston) or the Blue Hills (south of Boston), or both! And then get a burger somewhere awesome… if you like thin, California-style patties we’d go to Charlie’s Kitchen, and if you prefer thicker burgers there’s R.F. O’Sullivan’s. There’s also a cool winery not too far outside the city, if you want to compare our wine to California’s πŸ™‚

6. You have two weeks off of work and two round trip plane tickets to ANYWHERE. Where would you go and who would you take?

Oh man, so many choices! I’d love to fly around the world or go somewhere totally new to me, but at this very moment I’d love two tickets back to Aruba so Drew and I can continue reading on the beach, lounging around, and exploring parts of the island we didn’t get to see last week.

7. What’s the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you during a run or race?

Luckily (knock on wood) nothing really embarrassing has happened to me while running… yet. The closest to embarrassing I’ve come was finishing dead last in a race and having the police escort crawling along right behind me while volunteers picked up cones and things while trying not to walk too quickly for fear of passing me. I was pretty embarrassed at the time, actually, but in hindsight I’m just happy I finished!

8. Tell me the 3 best days of your life. Or at least the first 3 that pop into your mind.

Let’s go the “first 3 that pop into your mind” route.
-My wedding day was pretty flippin’ fun and awesome!
-We had a giant family reunion at my great uncle’s house when I was around 8(ish). I just remember running around this giant yard and going on the coolest, highest swing ever, and just having a blast. That was a pretty cool day.
-During my semester in England, we took a field trip to Winchester and I remember it being a pretty fabulous day full of sunshine and laughter and good friends.

Me and my Peeps in Winchester!

9. Okay, you HAVE to eat a fast food meal. What restaurant would you choose and what would you order?

Pffff so easy. In’n’Out, cheeseburger with grilled onions, and fries animal-style. And a small fountain beverage.

10. Have you ever met a celebrity?

I met Evan and Jaron – the heartthrob twin brothers that graced the world with Crazy For This Girl back in 2000 – and nearly swooned my way into unconsciousness. I also had coffee with Noam Chomsky once. Oh, and I gave the stink-eye to Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk in Santa Monica without realizing who they were.

11. Share a picture of yourself in non-workout clothes!

A rare occasion indeed... me in a dress!

A rare occasion indeed… me in a dress!

12. If you could choose to have a β€˜do-over’ and switch careers, what would you choose and why?

I’ve always thought it would be really awesome to be a doctor and work with Doctors Without Borders, but I get fainty at the sight of blood, or eye injuries, or bones, or anything else gross, so… yeah. Librarian it is!

13. If you won the Olympic Gold Medal – how do you think you would react?

I’d probably go into shock, to be honest.

14. What do you want for Christmas?

To spend time with my family and be cozy. However, I wouldn’t turn down running gear πŸ˜‰

15. What skill do you lack?

Ha, a good many! Including, but not limited to, nunchuck skills, bow-hunting skills, computer hacking skills, and ambidexterity.

  1. I am absolutely GEEKING out that you met Noam Chomsky!!! Do we get the whole story?! Like what did you talk about (philosophy? Linguistics? The weather??)?? How did you even meet him?? What kind of coffee did he drink?!
    Lol nerdy running librarians unite!

    • Hahaha… if the situation were reversed, I’d totally be geeking out over your meeting him as well! πŸ™‚ I was helping pack boxes at his house (he donated his personal papers to the archive where I work) and he offered us coffee when we were done. We all sat around his kitchen table drinking coffee and chatting (about what, I can’t remember for the life of me… I kept thinking “Wow, I’m drinking coffee with Noam Chomsky in his kitchen” and that’s all I can recall!). I caused a scene, too, by trying to quietly ask his assistant for sugar because I didn’t want to be rude and refuse his coffee but can’t drink it without sugar, and she couldn’t find it and it turned into a whole thing and I think embarrassed the archivist. So, yeah, he doesn’t take sugar in his coffee because the sugar jar was totally buried. Oh! I made him laugh too… I was there to help because the usual assistant was out sick and he made some comment like “They brought you this time, huh?” and I flexed my tiny arm and said “Yeah, I’m the muscle… isn’t it obvious?” πŸ™‚

    • Hahaha, it was such a weird moment! I had just bought mirrored aviators at the beach for like $5 and I was so proud of them. Drew and I were waiting to cross the street and I noticed this incredibly tall dude (Fillion) with another guy and a lady holding a tiny dog, and they sort of turned to look at us as we approached. They were all wearing mirrored aviators as well and I made such a judgmental “My sunglasses are cooler than yours and I bet you paid hundreds for them” stink-eye face at them and I remember them looking a little surprised/taken aback at the amount of shade being thrown their way. We went different ways after we crossed the street and Drew was hissing at me “Those are the guys from Firefly!!! You just gave them a look!” Hopefully they thought it was funny! Or at least a change from being ogled in a star-struck way πŸ™‚

  2. Thanks for linking to some new blogs! I’m a little bit obsessed with reading blogs. As much as I like writing one, sometimes reading them is even better! πŸ™‚
